Animal feed companies Koenis from Opmeer and Fransen Gerrits from Erp are going to work together in the field of production and sales of feed for cattle, sheep and goats. The company of the Koenis family is 125 years old and produces approximately 45.000 tons of animal feed per year.
Fransen Gerrits is of a similar age and produces approximately 800.000 tonnes of animal feed per year, of which approximately 100.000 tonnes is animal feed for cattle, sheep and goats. French Gerrits takes a minority interest in Koenis whereby cooperation and continuity are guaranteed. The companies had been working together for years in the area of purchasing via Centrico.
Sharing knowledge
Although Koenis will continue to operate autonomously in their area of operation in North Holland, the people of Fransen Gerrits and Koenis will share knowledge and expertise in the background. In this way, the synergy benefits will be used to the maximum and the service to customers will remain at the same level.
At the same time, a new generation will come on board at Koenis in the coming years. Gijs and Luca Koenis will pull the cart together with Bastiaan Houtenbos in the future, of course with the continued support of the current generation of Koenis.
New factory Middenmeer
The current Koenis factory, which is located in the middle of Opmeer, is due for replacement. The factory has been sold to a project developer and land has been purchased at Agriport Middenmeer.
Koenis and Fransen Gerrits are going to build a new factory there together. According to both parties a unique action in the Dutch compound feed industry. With this Koenis remains the only company in North Holland with its own factory, fully focused on ruminants.
Construction of the factory will start this year. The new factory is also ideal for the production of (small) special products, also for Fransen Gerrits.
Continuity
This collaboration is an important factor for the companies Koenis and Fransen Gerrits and their owners in the continuity of their business. In an ever-increasing collaboration in the food chain, a further expansion of the network in the dairy sector is important.
Dairy companies take their responsibility in the chain and therefore find it important to know what happens to feed (e.g. CO2-footprint and sustainability). They seek cooperation with animal feed companies.
